I wholeheartedly offer my thanks to all veterans of my country, including
these. War is hell, and it is sad that we must have war to remain free as we
are. The sacrifices of our servicemen and women should never be forgotten
nor taken for granted. Maxine Moore in Augusta, KS. (My father and all six
of my uncles were in WWII.)

I didn't know your organization existed, nice to see. I think I might
drive up to KS to see the signs.

Loren Lunde from Bottineau ND is an atomic vet
dying of radiation poisoning received in Nevada testing in 1957.
he is at home now doing self dialysis. I hope congress can
give these heroes all of the help and recognition that they
deserve. sincerely, Lowell Berg
Lowell - thanks for telling us about
Loren. Congress failed to act on any of the legislation related
to the atomic veterans in 2007 or 2008. We will try again and
let you know. On this Thanksgiving day I hope all will take time
to say a special prayer for Loren and his fellow veterans. We
very much appreciate his service and extend our most heart felt
"Thank You" |

I can remember years ago when the DAV tried to
get a Atomic Veteran Medal passed. Fact soldiers that worked on
and around weapons grade plutonium were exposed. Fact
Pershing missile II was the leverage used to put in play and
lead to the start one and start two treaties-INF and, the
disarmament of the old USSR. Soldiers that worked on CAS sites
in Europe should be included in your medal ? |

The health risks posed by unshielded radiation
are obvious. Many of them don't show up until later in life. I
very much appreciate what the atomic veterans did for our
nation. You won the Cold War -- you stood up to Communism.
God bless you. |

Letter to Mrs.
Windsor |
Houston, TX |
Dear Mrs. Windsor:
Thank you for your recent letter regarding the Atomic Veterans
Medal Act of 2007 (S. 2218). I am glad to have the benefit of
your ideas and appreciate your bringing this matter to my
attention.
As you may know, S. 2218 would direct the Secretary of Defense
to design and produce an Atomic Testing Service Medal to honor
members of the Armed Forces who were exposed to ionizing
radiation as a result of U.S. atomic weapons tests conducted
between 1945 and 1963. Because my father served in the military
for thirty-one years, I grew up around men and women dedicated
to protecting our country, and I strongly believe that the
sacrifices of our nation's veterans should not be forgotten.
I appreciate having the opportunity to represent you in the
United States Senate. Thank you for taking time to contact me.
Sincerely,
JOHN CORNYN
